NEW EVENT: Abstract Painting with Prompts
Join us at Holder Dane Gallery for a unique opportunity to unleash your creative spirit! Immerse yourself in an inspiring environment and experience the ultimate freedom of abstract art. Let your intuition guide you as you paint two stunning abstract masterpieces that truly reflect your individual style. Get ready for a fun-filled event that will leave you amazed by the incredible results! Don't miss out on this one-of-a-kind experience!
Think of this as a painting game where each person is prompted to create art intuitively. Each participant will randomly select a prompt written on a piece of paper, read it aloud, and then everyone will respond on canvas in their own unique way. Setting a 2-minute timer after each prompt is read will keep the intuitive energy flowing. All our abstract paintings will be completely different as participants respond uniquely to the same prompts. The session will begin with a very brief demo and overview of color mixing, mark-making, and the importance of variety in shape, color, values, lines, and edges when creating a successful abstract painting to give new artists more confidence and knowledge before the challenge begins.
Events are 3 hours in the inspiring setting of Holder Dane Gallery with professional artists as your guide. Feel free to bring your own BYOBeverages & BYOSnacks. For more info or to register go to www.holderdane.com/events or contact: pat@holderdane.com. Introductory Fee is $75.
We have several dates available in October and November at www.holderdane.com/events or contact pat@holderdane.com to request a date that will work for your group.
Painting the Figure Oil Workshop with Pamela Blaies
“Whether you have the opportunity to paint from life or photo references, painting the figure can be rewarding. Painting from a live model is generally the best way to learn and practice. But due to limited access to models in the past couple of years, I’ve had to learn how to use Photoshop, how to gather photo references and how to avoid the pitfalls of working with photos. I hope to share much of what I’ve learned in this workshop.” - Pamela
Experience Pamela’s approach to painting through presentations, hands-on exercises and practice. Each student will receive individual attention and be encouraged to experiment with techniques they might never have tried.
Learn to loosen up your brushwork and trust your artistic instincts as you develop skills designed to increase your confidence and encourage daily practice habits.
Color mixing, color harmony and composition will be discussed as well as using technology as a tool. We will paint from a live model the first day and on day two and three we will focus on Pamela’s process of gathering and preparing photos to paint from.
Pamela hopes each artist will leave her workshop inspired to continue pursuing their personal artistic growth with a renewed focus on experiencing joy in the journey.

Take a look through Bruce Rosenstiel’s new books from recent travels!
Travel the world through the evocative images and narratives of photographer Bruce Rosenstiel. His most recent books include images from travels through Portugal in fall of 2019, Patagonia in winter of 2019, and Guatemala in spring of 2020. Click the book covers below to view Bruce’s beautiful photographs or order a book.
Bruce Rosenstiel Bio: Bruce Rosenstiel was drawn to photography by his fascination with wildlife and world cultures. He enjoys photographing all manner of flora and fauna to reveal the extraordinary, and often unseen, diversity and beauty of nature.
Likewise, Bruce’s cultural portraits seek to make the foreign accessible by diffusing barriers of difference, creating a visual language of images that focuses on themes of universal human experience: work, play, worship, sorrow, joy.
Bruce’s Small World is dedicated to fostering environmental stewardship and cross-cultural understanding, by highlighting the bonds and behaviors between species and across communities, communicating through images when there is no shared spoken language.
He began his journey as a birder. Watching for and identifying birds taught him to slow down and observe the details of his surroundings leading to an interest in nature overall. When he finally picked up a camera, he focused on flowers, insects, butterflies, and all manner of flora and fauna.
Bruce teaches introductory and intermediate photography and Adobe Lightroom to adults of all ages. He is the founder and past president of the BJNC Camera Club, and he and his wife have co-lead numerous Culture and Photography Tours to Oaxaca, Mexico, Peru, and France.
