Sally Arant has spent the last 35 years working passionately as a garden designer, nurserywoman, educator, naturalist and artist. Sally and her husband Tony have enjoyed life in many wild and beautiful places, including 25 years in Alaska. The lure of life with grandkids and new careers in the arts has brought them to Texas, thriving where they are planted.

Sally’s mixed media art forms include sculptural art panels, reclaimed wood vases and candleholders as well as carved and painted cast concrete vases, bowls and orbs. She also creates jewelry using natural elements such as freshwater pearls on deerskin cording, stone, gemstone, bone, wood, horn and African metal beads.

The art that Sally makes is not confined to any particular genre or style, yet everything shares a similar Wabi-sabi spirit. Her art embraces and celebrates the rustic elegance and simplicity of nature with all its imperfections, textures, wonderments and soulfulness.

As an artist, Sally finds that her best creative inspiration and technique innovation comes in the boldness and nitty-gritty efforts of working creatively every day. Every new piece is a stepping-stone to new ideas and perfected techniques. Sally sees the surprise unfolding of something new and unexpected in the work of her hands as a generous reward for all the hard work. Her best reward is the response from people to her art with the statement, “I’ve never seen anything like this before!” This stokes Sally’s fire and fills the well of joy that any artist needs to keep going!
