Irma Murray
Irma Murray has always been captivated by color. Spending countless hours drawing as a child, she found that there were never quite enough crayons in the box. Sometimes you just had to create colors all your own, and so her journey as an artist began. Growing up in Cleveland, Ohio, Irma earned a degree in Commercial Art. She worked part time as a graphic artist and photo retoucher during the more than 20 years she spent living in Michigan while raising her family. After relocating to Texas in 2009, Irma was able to find a little more time in her life to pursue her art once again.
Having previously worked exclusively in watercolor, she was introduced to colored pencil in 2009 and was immediately hooked. They allow her the ability to lay down multiple layers of color and achieve the fine detail she loves to create in her work. Her artwork has been juried into numerous regional, national and international exhibitions. Irma is a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America, the Visual Art League of Lewisville, TX and the Cross Timbers Artist’s Guild.
Art has the ability to transform both the one who creates it and those who experience it. It can gladden the heart and nourish the soul. I have always found delight in color and shape, in the play of shadow and light, and in the rhythm and patterns that abound in nature. In my art, I try to capture the exquisite details that often go unnoticed as we rush through our busy days. I invite my viewers to take a moment to breathe, take a closer look, and reflect on the beauty in this world that God has given us to enjoy.
